DISTRICT 27 DESERVES A LEADER THEY CAN ACCESS AND COUNT ON TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT.

- ALAN MILLER

About

MEET ALAN MILLER

Alan Miller was raised in Marshall County Alabama, attending K through 12, serving in various leadership positions and voted President of his High School Class. He attended Snead State on a Leadership Scholarship where he was also elected by his peers as Student Leaders Organization President. After transferring to Auburn University he received his Bachelor’s Degree and worked the next 4 years with disturbed adolescents in an adolescent treatment facility.  There he developed one of his primary platform positions - Focus on Mental Health issues facing children and veterans. With a desire to make a greater communal impact, he pursued a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance which he received from Florida State University.

After graduating, with his passion for conservation gained from his time on the family farm and spending his teen years hiking in the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains, he spent two years working in Yellowstone National Park entrenching his foundational beliefs of protecting our natural resources. Upon returning to North Alabama he accepted a position with a financial services organization, the largest of its kind in Alabama, Redstone Federal Credit Union. With a strong sense of loyalty he declined opportunities to move into other positions within the company and remain accessible to his Marshall County customers - his own “First-floor, Open-door” policy.

He has served on various local boards and was selected by the City Council in 2016 to serve on the Arab City Council, of which he was eventually elected. He serves on the Solid Waste Committee and the Beautification Board, but is most proud of his service with the Finance Committee’s work to shore up the city’s financial standing, which has been a major focus of his service as an elected official.

An avid supporter of Scouting, he achieved Eagle Scout, and is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. He has served his community as assistant cub and scoutmaster. He has served on the Arab Beautification Board, and he is a 23 year member of Rotary International, serving the Arab Club twice as President. He serves his church as Treasurer, Stewardship Committee, and United Methodist Men. As a former studio musican he fills in on various instruments for the church Praise Band.

He is serving his 4th term on the Board of Directors for the Marshall County Leadership Challenge, currently as Treasurer, but also having served as Chairman of the Board. He has served on the BOD for The North Alabama Business and Technology Center, the Marshall County Family Resource Center, and the Arab Musical Theater. He has been a volunteer for Junior Achievement and as a Reading Buddy at Arab Primary School. He is a member of the Arab and Guntersville Chambers of Commerce.

His Marshall County roots run very deep, as his great, great grandfather - one of the earliest settlers of Sand Mountain - is also the Founder of the City of Albertville. And he actually married an Albertville woman, and love of his life, the former Dorisa Wilder. They have three children, two dogs, two cats, and reside in Arab.

Alan's Top Priorities

ALAN'S TOP PRIORITIES

01. SMALL BUSINESSES

Small businesses are the bedrock of our economy. In fact, small businesses make up 99.4% of our state’s economy. If we don’t support our local economy, we won’t have one. As a State Representative, I will make every effort to reduce the burden of starting/owning a small business and provide resources back to the district for the current business owners we have.

02. WORKFORCE & ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT

This almost goes hand-in-hand with backing our small businesses. In order to have successful businesses, we must be able to provide a healthy and prepared workforce. Our high schools, tech schools, and secondary schools are building and developing the next generation of workers, and I want to support that process here at home in District 27. We have some amazing opportunities to grow our economy. I want to work with Senator Kitchens to attract and recruit companies to our area to create jobs and grow our economy.

03. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

As a fiscal conservative, prudent management and oversight of our state’s financial resources is a top priority. One bad vote could change the fact that Alabama is on a great path fiscally. After managing a credit union for nearly 30 years, I received direct insight into working with a team, keeping finances balanced, and creating a solid work environment.

04. INFRASTRUCTURE & QUALITY OF LIFE

Every single person in this district utilizes our roadways, sewage systems, and broadband. I cannot stress enough how important it is that we move up in society and maintain our basic infrastructure necessities. I want to be an advocate in Montgomery for bringing state (and even federal) funding back home to improve our infrastructure and expand on transportation quality/safety. There’s not one person who is opposed to improving quality of life
